Prioritise growth measures, urges EEF survey

The EEF has suggested that the government should prioritize finding ways to jump-start economic recovery in the UK rather than focussing on reducing the deficit.

Of the 350 companies surveyed, almost 80% felt that new measures to accelerate growth should be our priority, while 40% also felt that the government should push eurozone leaders to resolve the debt crisis sooner.

The EEF has urged the government to focus policy in 4 main areas:

  • Lowering costs of running businesses in the UK,
  • Creating a more flexible labour market,
  • Make it easier for companies to bring products and services to market.
  • Helping growing businesses to focus on exporting.
