According to figures released by Ascendant, investment into UK Tech start-ups reached a 10 year high in the first two quarters of 2012. Nearly £600m has been invested into this sector so far this year!
Ascendant projects that the total amount invested into the sector this year is likely to be between £900m and £1bn.
Much of the money invested so far this year has been into internet, mobile, digital media and cleantech companies, however some sub-sectors within tech have seen a decline in investment, such as: semiconductors and software.
Indeed two of the largest fundraises have been a £40m fundraising for Just Eat – an online business that allows people to order takeaway food from restaurants in their area and a £25m fundraise for Enecsys, a Cambridge-based company that improves the efficiency of solar panels.
The following VCs have been the most active so far this year: Index Ventures, Cambridge Angels, Eden, Greylock Partner, North West Fund and Scottish Enterprise.
